Digital citizenship refers to the ability of individuals to publically
participate in society online. It is considered as a positive exercise of
intellectual freedoms because of the ease of expression and circulation of
information, while at the same time the chaos of ideas restricts the
freedom of the individual, and refutes it as a real force.
The global citizenship of the individual becomes more supreme
than his/her belonging to a state because of the cyberspace and the weak
states’ sovereignty, and, in the meantime, the individual becomes an
active part in the international community. Technology has also affected
the identity of society due to the difficulty of uniting the values of
belonging. This requires reinforcing the individual’s political
membership through supporting the competence of citizens and
intermediary organizations, in addition to regulating the values of global
citizenship by governments and international organizations.
